Welcome to Ellyn Yarn.
We are a Canadian yarn store and knitting studio based in Calgary, Alberta, serving knitters, crocheters, and makers across Canada.
Ellyn Yarn was created from a simple belief: creativity is meant to be shared.
My name is Elena, and although yarn is now a big part of my life, my journey began in a very different field. For more than 20 years, I worked in banking in Ukraine, including several years as a business analyst. After moving to Canada, I discovered a new passion through knitting, teaching, and the welcoming community that surrounds handmade crafts.
For over three years, I worked in a local Alberta yarn store, helping knitters and crocheters choose the right yarn, learn new techniques, and gain confidence in their projects. What I enjoyed most wasn't simply selling yarn—it was helping people discover what they were capable of creating with their own hands.
One of my favorite moments as a teacher is hearing someone say, "I can't do this," and then watching them succeed just a few minutes later.
In 2026, after moving to Calgary, my husband and I decided to build something of our own.
Ellyn Yarn is a family-owned Canadian business built around our shared love of creativity, learning, and handmade crafts. While I focus on yarn, knitting classes, workshops, project design, and helping makers develop their skills, my husband works behind the scenes managing the website, technology, and daily operations that help bring our ideas to life.
Together, we created the kind of yarn shop we would love to visit ourselves.
We carefully select quality yarns, knitting needles, crochet hooks, tools, patterns, and supplies that we genuinely enjoy using. Many of the products available in our store have been tested in real knitting projects, workshops, and pattern designs before ever reaching our shelves. We believe in quality materials, honest recommendations, and personal support.
Along with yarn and supplies, we offer knitting classes, knitting workshops, and learning opportunities for both beginners and experienced makers. Whether you are picking up your first pair of knitting needles or working on an advanced project, we are here to help you enjoy the creative process and grow your confidence.
But Ellyn Yarn is about more than yarn.
